Death is something we all have to contend with. However, the death of a baby at birth or the woman during birth is particulary difficult. People’s reactions to death vary greatly; it is not something that can be predicted in advance. There are a few practical steps you can take to help someone through the bereavement process but most support activities are reactive to the needs and wishes of the family members. Bereavement support groups exist; you may wish to refer some women or families to these. In this session we provide you with information to strengthen your understanding of bereavement processes and focus on developing your skills to better support family members in bereavement
