MDC Accredited CPD: National Stakeholder Consultation

A national stakeholder consultation is a meeting where a range of stakeholders are consulted on a proposed policy or project. The goal is to create a policy that reflects the needs of the people. 

Purpose

  • To gather ideas and feedback from a variety of groups 
  • To develop a policy that reflects the needs of the people 
  • To ensure that a project meets the needs of the community 

Stakeholders 

Government agencies, Business organizations, Trade unions, Civil society organizations, Academia, and Marginalized groups.

Methods Workshops, Hackathons, Open space technology meetings, and Calls for evidence. 

Examples

  • In Ghana, stakeholder consultations have been held to develop policies on religion and fishing 
  • The United Nations has hosted stakeholder consultations on the Water Action Agenda 

Best practices 

  • Ensure representation from a range of sectors
  • Involve people with relevant knowledge and experience
  • Encourage active participation from all stakeholders
  • Consider the needs of the younger generation
