Ghana College Of Physicians And Surgeons: Injury Prevention
Injury prevention in hospitals can include:
- Equipment: Using the right equipment, such as call bells, falls mats, bed rails, and better shoes and surfaces
- Exercise: Building strength, coordination, and balance
- Removing trip hazards: Making sure the hospital is free of trip hazards
- Injury prevention programs: Some hospitals use programs like the National Fire Protection Association’s Risk Watch curriculum, supplemented with materials from Safe Kids Worldwide
- Bleeding control: Teaching people how to identify life threatening bleeding, alert emergency services, apply pressure and pack wounds, and apply tourniquets
- Sports injury prevention: Some hospitals offer programs to help young athletes reduce their risk of injury while enhancing their sports performance
Other injury prevention services include: Motor vehicle safety, Fall awareness, Suicide prevention, Water safety, and Protect your brain
