HOW TO PASS MDC EXAMS TIPS NUMBER 1

I know preparing for a Physician Assistant license exams and exams as a foreign trained Doctor in Ghana feels like something only Hercules can do. It often feels like your life depends on it. However, adequate preparation is key to this particular success. Nevertheless, each and everyone have to put in the best they’ve got in order to achieve this great success. Below are few helpful tips that helped many people to pass their license exams since 2019. Make sure you read them carefully.

A. Prepare adequately not half way : Spend some cash to buy a personal standard treatment guideline book for your self. Highlight important points with light green and pink colours. Take note of the conditions, non pharmacological managements and pharmacological management. Treatment options (evidence rating a b and c) and criteria for referral.

B. Pause with side jobs, Locums , clinicals voluntary works etc, at least 2 months prior to the exams : Be behind your study material 24/7 because your life depends on it. Finish the STG BOOK twice. You can glance through the orthopedic and mental health part.

C. Participate in solving past questions: Don’t be shy to participate in solving past questions. You need to ask as much questions as you can to be helped and guided on the best answer to choose and technical way of answering the question.

D. Revise your Anatomy again: There are times MDC brings question which involves anatomy. You need to learn the anatomy very well and understand the physiology and pathophysiology of each organ.

E. Other revision: Revise your microbiology again , revise your immunology again.

F. Chronic conditions to read on:

  1. Hypertension : Essential , primary and secondary , urgency and emergency

2) Heart failure (American classification of heart failure)

3) Cardiac arrhythmia and clinical findings on examination

4)Myocardial infarction and its management

5) Cardiac Tamponade and Beck’s triad

6) Asthma (types and Asthma and their respective vital signs) Specific age to diagnose asthma

7) Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

8) Pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (their medications duration for treatment and side effects of all the drugs. Also read on treatment failure management)

9)Covid 19 (Has’nt really appeared in the exams and it’s likely to be a surprise package)

10. Pulmonary embolism and it’s management , factors and treatment

11. Chronic liver disease (Learn about the signs of CLD and their laboratory parameters and reference ranges)

12. Chronic kidney disease (learn about the stages of CKD and their laboratory parameters and reference ranges)

13. Sickle cell diseases and their complications and management (learn about all the crises)

14. Bleeding disorders and their managements

15. Congenital heart diseases

16. CVA (Types , how to manage each) Remember to refer

17. HIV AIDS and types of medication

18. Diabetes (Hypoglycemia , Hyperglycemia , HHS/HONK , DKA ) Their drugs and it’s side effect

19. Epilepsy and seizure ( drugs that are used in children , their exact doses)

20. Childhood cancers

21. Thyroid disorders
